Some things Ive been thinking about...

Eric was talking the other day in class about his systems for getting things done. Id like to invite other artists to submit systems for getting things done here.... id like to compile these systems into some sort of self help manual for artists.
1. How do you motivate? How do you kickstart your day? Do you get up every morning Jog and meditate? Drink a cup of coffee on an empty stomach and work?
2. How do you organize your life? Keep a day planner? Make a to do list? When do you check the list?

Systems for remembering to show up:
-1 day planner, one computer calendar and a desk calendar. If I have something date/time related come up and I can't write it down, I call my own phone and leave a message to write the date into my calendar.
-Weekly meetings with other people who are counting on you to get things done. (Also, making sure not to leave the meeting without setting/clarifying tasks for everyone)

p.s. I read about the "Action Method" on urbanhonking a little while back, and am fascinated with it and with their products. http://www.behance.com/Philosophy/Action_Method

Oh! Good one.

One of the reasons collaboration is so attractive to me, aside from like the social aspect of art-experiencing/making/blathering on endlessly, is that it makes me responsible to others aside from myself, which helps keep me active. I am often too lenient on myself.

Also, you know those urges where you have where you need to be “producing” or engaged in the creative process, like, right then? But the middle of class or driving isn’t the most appropriate place to act on them? And then you finally have a free moment, and you think I should probably be acting on this totally awesome idea I had earlier in line at the grocery store? But instead you are reading about Lindsey Lohan on Yahoo news? Well, I try to make myself act then, right when I think of it again, when maybe the urge has even passed. Because I remember that once I start, it’ll be hard to stop, and I will feel relief from having purged or whatever, and satisfaction from realizing an idea. I scream at myself inside my head—“Do it!!!” –that sometimes works. So yeah, screaming at myself inside my head. Wait. What?

typo--get rid of that first "where" when reading. :)

Not sure if I am the right person to comment about how to be organize (since I missed too many group meeting in order to pursuit my other self-centered project). But here is what I do:

1 notebook to write things down (idea, thought, class note etc.)
1 notebook to write things I have to do ex. call the bank, clean, update website, last minute project
1 calendar book to write down appointment, future deadline etc.

& sleeping is overrated but I always make sure to make the bed right after I got up. Neat bed make you feel less stress when you come home. Plus I try to tell myself that nothing is permanent, life is a moment of free falling & nothing will really last. Better to just enjoy the ride & have a blast.
